Narrative
Tomorrowland
To begin with, regarding Propp's stock characters, we can assume that the girl is 'The Princess' due to the fact that she is being attacked and she needs to be saved because she is incapable of fighting back therefore the man is 'The Hero' because he is saving the girl and keeping her alive. Furthermore, 'The Villain(s)' are the robots who are in the form of humans because they are trying to kill the girl. On the other hand, the enigma code is that we aren't sure whether the robots will succeed in killing the princess and we also are curious as to why they are trying to kill her. Additionally, the action code is visible when the villain is trying to enter and the girl starts kicking the garage door and then the man stabs the robot with an electrical device- this signifies that a violent act will follow. In addition to that, the equilibrium is not shown in this scene however we can interpret that the girl and man are in the house planning something or hiding. Therefore the disequilibrium is when the robots try to break into the house and kill the girl, this leads to violent events. Finally, the new equilibrium is also not shown in this clip however we can interpret that it is either positive- resulting in the girl and man escaping or it could be negative- resulting in them both being killed.
Vampire Diaries
Firstly, the we can tell that the man(Kkaus) is 'The Villain', we know this because he has killed three characters for a ritual that is beneficial to him, additionally, we know can also assume the three girls who have been killed are 'The Princess(es)' because they are surrounded by fire and are weak which means they need to be saved since they cannot defend themselves. In addition to that, the man(Stefan) who is 'The Hero' is shown towards the end of the scene but he is not able to save the girls because he has been injured; we can tell he is the hero because when the man is killing the last girl(Elena) he has a helpless and miserable look in his eye. The enigma code is whether the girls will be killed and whether or not a hero will save them, it also a mystery as to why they are being killed however the three circles of fire and chants imply it is a ritual for the man. Furthermore, the action code is apparent when one of the girls try to run but are killed by Klaus with her heart being ripped out. This is a violent scene which suggests that the other two girls will also be killed in equally violent ways and this shows that a series of vicious events will follow. Lastly, the disequilibrium is the man killing the girls and the new equilibrium results in their deaths.
